More Bespoke Jewellery at Art @ Sudborough

The Jubilee weekend and so the Art @ Sudborough event are quickly approaching with only three weekends to go!  So I thought I would show you another bespoke jewellery design I have created especially for the art exhibition. The Art @ Sudborough event is at All Saints’ Church, Sudborough, Northamptonshire NN14 3BX.  It opens on the evening of Friday 1st June 2012 for invitation only show preview and opens to the public from 11am to 5pm Saturday 2nd June through to Tuesday 5th June 2012 and admission is free throughout.

The design below is a one-off bespoke jewellery design for Art @ Sudborough and has been created using genuine Murano glass beads complimented with Tiffany glass beads and Swarovski crystals and finished with sterling silver fittings.

The Murano beads used are 20mm square with black glass on the inside covered with pieces of gold and silver leaf and covered in crystal clear glass.  Each bead is individually handmade so no two are exactly the same giving great individuality.  Although the centre is black they still have the great depth and vibrancy you would expect from any Murano glass bead.

The bespoke design is for the Art @ Sudborough event on the Jubilee weekend so if you like it get down there and  see this and the full selection of bespoke designs I have created.  Let me know what you think of this latest design and if you would wear these colours.

Tesoro Jewellery featured on UK Handmade Summer Showcase

I am so excited, the UK Handmade showcase is now live and is a beautiful collection of British handmade items with the theme of a British Summer of Celebration.  UK Handmade is a design led online magazine committed to showcasing and promoting the best creative talent the UK has to offer. The term ‘handmade’ is now an indicator of quality, care and professionalism that is second to none and something that the lovely people at UK Handmade wish to encourage and celebrate.

Up-Cycling Jewellery

Re-cycling and now up-cycling, or I would say reusing, are big practices at the moment.  Everyone currently is being careful with money and reusing things that you already have is a good way to make new things.  If you have a crafty nature, that’s making things rather than being dodgy, then I am sure it is something you’ve always done taking old items and reusing parts of them to make new things.  Up-cycling jewellery is the same process either reusing parts to make something new or to embellish something else.

Jewellery is a good sorce of materials for up-cycling, we have all had jewellery that we have loved wearing and then it has sat in a box for ages or part of it is damaged but you don’t want to through it away so why not up-cycle that pre-loved jewellery or get someone like me to do it for you.

Four polished cream agate beads with a brown paper bag on a grey and white background

A couple of weeks ago I was given a brown paper bag and inside was a selection of polished cream coloured agate beads.  They had been used before but were now just beads ready to be made into an up-cycled necklace.

To make the necklace I laid out the beads and chose the order in which they looked best, as they varied slightly in size.  I decided that they needed something between them to help with movement of the necklace and to add another aspect to the necklace, so I used 5mm sterling silver beads and Swarovski crystals and mixed them.  The mixed beads were also the right size for covering the unsymmetrical ends of the polished agate beads.  In this case the other beads were new but you could use beads from another piece of old jewellery and up-cycle them both together.

The back was finished off with more Swarovski crystals and a sterling silver clasp to create a bespoke necklace and made to last another life time!  Let me know what you think about re-cycling and up-cycling jewellery or contact me if you have any jewellery you want to give a new life to.

Wedding Fair – Take Two!

After being invited to exhibit at my first wedding fair I now have the bug and am off to my next one this Sunday 29th April.  The wedding fair is being held at Mitchell Hall, College Road, Cranfield, Bedfordshire close to Milton Keynes.  The event is being organised by Urchin Events who organise several wedding fayres and baby events in the area around Milton Keynes.

I am really excited about the wedding fair as it will give me chance to show off some of my new designs and wedding day jewellery.  I also enjoy meeting people and seeing how I can help add the finishing touches to their special day.  Some of the latest pieces I will have on display are my hair pins which add sparkle and interest to any hair style.  Below are examples in silver and pink with Murano glass beads, Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls in two different styles.

Murano Glass Baguette Drop Earrings

As I have mentioned before I like to use different shapes and sizes of Murano glass beads to create different looks and styles for my handmade jewellery.  Baguette shaped beads are a delicate slender square profile bead and are one of the most difficult to hand make due to the width to length ratio of the glass.
